AMT offers the automatic shifting benefits of a conventional automatic transmission, while retaining the high efficiency, low cost, simple structure, and ease of manufacturing of manual gear transmission. It is derived by modifying an existing manual transmission, retaining most of the original assembly components and only altering the shift lever part of the manual operating system. This results in lower production costs, making it highly acceptable to manufacturers.
