Advantages:
Leaf springs are simple in structure, reliable in operation, low in cost, and easy to maintain. They serve as both the elastic element and the guiding device of the suspension. One end is hinged to the frame, allowing it to transmit various forces and torques and determine the wheel's trajectory. At the same time, they also provide a certain degree of friction damping, which is why they are widely used in non-independent suspensions.
Disadvantages:
Despite their simple structure, the disadvantages of leaf springs cannot be ignored. They can only be used in non-independent suspensions, are relatively heavy, have high stiffness, offer poor comfort, have long longitudinal dimensions which are not conducive to shortening the vehicle's front and rear overhangs, and the leaf spring pins at the connection to the frame are prone to wear. However, to improve the performance of leaf springs, reduce weight, and increase lifespan, variable-section leaf springs and single-leaf springs have emerged.
